"The Rise of Independence"
Clear skies and a temperature that
was comfortable for everyone, you couldn't ask for a better day for the lifting
of the Space Shuttle Replica “Independence”.
Spectators from all around crowded among each other with their cameras, tablets,
and cell phones alike to capture a moment in history while “Independence” was being moved onto its final
resting place atop the mammoth Boeing 747. Space Center Houston’s soon to be
attraction will be like no other in the world, drawing visitors international
as well as locally. Space Center Houston
says, “The SCA and Shuttle Attraction will be an unprecedented, international
landmark exhibit that will open in 2015, stand over eight stories tall and
feature interactive exhibits for the public to explore. Visitors will be able
to enter both vehicles, mounted in the classic carry configuration – an
experience unavailable anywhere else in the world. The experiential exhibit
will feature the remarkable history of the shuttle program and its role in
shaping current NASA initiatives to explore asteroids, the moon, Mars and
beyond”.
